Gambit
Remy LeBeau
A Cajun thief from the New Orleans Thieves Guild with the mutant ability to charge objects with explosive kinetic energy. Gambit arrived in the X-Men fully formed (charming, mysterious, carrying playing cards and a bo staff) with a secret history with Mister Sinister that would haunt him for years. His romance with Rogue, two people who literally cannot touch, became one of the franchise's most iconic love stories.

Gambit remains a perennial favorite since Claremont introduced him in the '80s, with his roguish charm and kinetic card tricks cementing him as a quintessential '90s X-Man. His romance with Rogue is widely beloved and often cited as one of Marvel's top pairings, while recent runs have elevated him beyond "stuck in the '90s" allegations into more prominent A-list status. The character's enduring popularity keeps him central to X-Men rosters, though some adaptations (like X-Men Evolution's ill-fated haircut) remind fans that his coolness factor requires careful handling.
