Mister Sinister
Nathaniel Essex
A Victorian geneticist transformed by Apocalypse into an immortal mutant obsessed with the Summers bloodline. Sinister is the architect of some of the X-Men's greatest tragedies (the Mutant Massacre, the creation of Madelyne Pryor, the cloning of Jean Grey). He is charming, theatrical, and utterly amoral, a scientist who treats people as specimens. On Krakoa, he sat on the Quiet Council while secretly cataloguing every mutant genome for his own designs.

Nathaniel Essex remains one of the X-Men's most enduring and unsettling villains, with his genetic experimentation and obsession with the Summers bloodline defining decades of storylines. His role on the Krakoa-era Quiet Council sparked intense debate about whether a character responsible for so much mutant suffering deserved redemption or trust, with many fans viewing his inclusion as morally compromising. The character's theatrical Victorian-era mad scientist persona and his manipulation of Scott and Jean's family legacy make him a fixture in fan discussions about the franchise's best antagonists.
