Kitty Pryde
Katherine 'Kitty' Pryde
The girl who walked through walls and into the heart of the X-Men. Kitty joined at thirteen and grew up in front of the readers, from wide-eyed teenager to confident hero to eventual leader. Her power to phase through solid matter is deceptively simple; her determination, intelligence, and refusal to back down from anything are what make her extraordinary. Claremont wrote her as the reader's surrogate; she became something greater.

Kitty Pryde remains one of the most beloved X-Men, largely thanks to Chris Claremont's original run that introduced her as the team's heart and soul. Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run is frequently cited as her definitive portrayal, particularly her reunion with Colossus and her ultimate sacrifice. Her constant costume changes and lack of an iconic look frustrate some fans, though her personality (whether as the classic Claremont ingenue or the valley girl from Evolution) consistently wins people over.
