Caliban
Caliban
Originally a gentle, childlike Morlock with the ability to sense other mutants, Caliban was transformed by Apocalypse into the Horseman of Death, a hulking savage warrior. His arc from frightened underground dweller to apocalyptic enforcer and back stands as one of the most dramatic character transformations in X-Men history. He sacrificed himself protecting X-23 during Messiah CompleX.

The Uncanny X-Men #148
August 1981
Caliban earns sympathy for his tragic arc from lonely Morlock tracker to Apocalypse's Hound, with the forced marriage subplot involving underage Kitty Pryde remaining deeply uncomfortable for modern readers. His prominence in the X-Men films (particularly Stephen Merchant's portrayal in *Logan*) gave the obscure character more personality and screen time than his comics role might suggest he deserved. He's remembered more for his pathos and victimhood than any heroic moments, occupying a unique niche as a tragic figure twisted by circumstance rather than ambition.
