Vulcan's reputation is deeply polarizing (while his debut as a tragic villain in Ed Brueaker's "Deadly Genesis" and subsequent rise as Shi'ar emperor during "War of Kings" showcase his immense power and complexity), yet he remains underrated and underutilized in major X-Men stories. His recent appearances in Al Ewing's "X-Men Red" have generated excitement, offering him a rare chance to shine as a prominent character rather than a forgotten third Summers brother. The character's fall from grace and redemption arc divides readers, with some appreciating his range from innocent aspirant to corrupted emperor to reluctant ally, while others find his personality shifts inconsistent.
