Shadow King
Amahl Farouk
An ancient psychic entity that feeds on hatred and negative emotion, the Shadow King was the first evil mutant Xavier ever encountered. It exists on the astral plane and possesses human hosts, making it nearly impossible to destroy. Its battles with Xavier and later Storm represent the X-Men's most personal struggle against pure psychic evil.

Shadow King stands as one of the X-Men's most psychologically terrifying villains, a psychic parasite whose body-hopping menace made him Charles Xavier's first great enemy and a recurring nightmare for the team. The Muir Island Saga remains a standout storyline showcasing his manipulative powers, though his FX television portrayal in *Legion* (as Amahl Farouk opposite David Haller) earned particular praise for reinventing him as a charismatic, complex antagonist distinct from the comics. His unsettling fixation on possessing X-Women, particularly Storm and Jean Grey, has made him both memorable and disturbing across decades of appearances.
