Mastermind
Jason Wyngarde
A founding member of the Brotherhood whose illusion-casting powers could reshape perceived reality itself. Mastermind's greatest and most infamous act was his psychic seduction of Jean Grey on behalf of the Hellfire Club, slowly corrupting her into the Black Queen and triggering the emergence of Dark Phoenix. Few villains have had a more lasting impact on the X-Men mythos.

Mastermind is best remembered for his pivotal role in the Dark Phoenix Saga, where his psychic manipulation of Jean Grey (posing as the debonair Jason Wyngarde) remains one of the X-Men's most iconic and emotionally devastating storylines. While he debuted as a forgettable Brotherhood lackey, the Claremont-Byrne run elevated him into a dangerous and creepy villain whose seduction plot still resonates as a standout moment in X-Men history. He's generally viewed as a one-hit wonder who peaked spectacularly in that arc and never quite recaptured that menace afterward.
