Professor X's son, an omega-level mutant whose fractured psyche contains hundreds of distinct personalities, each controlling a different superpower. David Haller is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe and one of the most unstable. His attempt to kill Magneto in the past accidentally created the Age of Apocalypse. His story is the X-Men's most intimate exploration of mental illness and power.

Fan Sentiment

Legion remains one of Marvel's most ambitious character studies, with Si Spurrier's X-Men Legacy run widely celebrated as a brilliant exploration of mental illness and identity that pushed the boundaries of superhero storytelling. The FX television series introduced him to a broader audience and earned acclaim for its inventive approach, though his comic book portrayal remains divisive (his reality-warping powers and unstable nature make him compelling in contained stories like Legion Quest, but difficult to use consistently without breaking narrative stakes). His controversial history, including the infamous time-travel rape storyline, adds a complicated layer to his legacy that even his strongest character work can't fully escape.
