Fan Sentiment

Karma holds a special place as one of the New Mutants' founding members and Marvel's first major openly lesbian character, though her representation has been frustratingly inconsistent over the decades. Her most celebrated appearances remain in the original New Mutants run and the 2009 revival, where her complex backstory as a Vietnamese refugee and her role as the team's grounding, maternal presence resonated strongly. Despite being a pioneering LGBTQ+ character, fans frequently lament that she's been sidelined or forgotten in major storylines, appearing more as a roster name than a fully developed character in recent years.
