An Aboriginal Australian mutant teleporter who served as the X-Men's silent transportation during their Outback era, opening portals with his bull-roarer from atop a mesa near their base in the abandoned town of Cooterman's Creek. Gateway rarely spoke, communicating through action and cryptic gestures, but his powers were essential to the team's operations from Uncanny X-Men #229 through the Siege Perilous. He was later revealed to be an ancestor of Bishop and maintained a recurring presence at the Xavier Institute and in Generation X.

Fan Sentiment

Gateway remains one of the X-Men's most enigmatic allies, with his mysterious Aboriginal origins and teleportation powers making him a fan-favorite supporting character from the Outback era. His silent, mystical presence during Chris Claremont's run is fondly remembered, though fans often lament that he's been underutilized in modern stories. The character's visual distinctiveness and his role in the team's Australian adventures have cemented his status as a beloved piece of X-Men history, even if he rarely takes center stage.
